Tracy
Conover
This was the second time shooting Tracy Conover
and though it was the bigger stage and with the bigger lights, the Dan
Electros shoot was ultimately a better one. Still I got some decent stuff.
Once again there was no photo pit so I was pretty much stuck to this one
place I got at the front of stage right. It was limiting but at least
it was the side she spent most of her time at. The Joe Bonomassa crowd
really got into her set, and I was happy to see that. It was a pretty
good matchup of opener and headliner bands if you ask me.. Both really
can play the guitar.
There was some guy there with a high end Canon and a 70-200 mm IS lens
shooting with a flash so I'm sure he got some incredible stuff. I noted
a few other folks with decent digital bodies as well.. they were all shooting
with flash.. It annoys me that I pretty much have to forgo the use of
flash when I have the official photo pass. On the other hand grainy and
challenging as it is.. I still love the existing light photography method
of concert photography. Something gritty and real about it and it appeals
to me. I think if I was shooting for a magazine I'd hope to use a bit
of fill flash and shoot a lower ISO though. In way, the way I shoot mirrors
the performances I shoot. Live and real with possible flaws. Not polished
and finished without imperfections like a studio album would be. Overall
I'd rather experience life.. live than on tape.
