Throwdown

Of the 4 bands that played this night, Throwdown was from what I understood the "big" band, yet they played second to last. Maybe they pull straws for whoever gets to go on the last. Or maybe they just wanted to be done early for the night. Or maybe Black Dahlia is the "bigger" band right now. I don't know how these things work out sometimes. Either way made no difference to me, I can't tell most of the grunt metal bands apart to be honest. I just don't have the ear and maybe the angst for it. Still I'll be the first to admit it's one of my favorite types of bands to shoot. It's a challenge to get a shot in at all, from moment one they are moving fast and hard, the lighting changes almost as fast as they change positions on the stage. I get tired just watching em. You may not like the style of music or hell you may love it, either way you can't ever say they bored you. In fact they tend to incite you, I think maybe the appeal of what they are doing is that you feel it more than listen to it. And you have to respect that even if you don't understand it.
I mostly write these reviews from the perspective of seeing a band often without knowing anything at all about them when I walk into the venue. I don't look up where they are from or any of the bio stuff from their web page before I type out my thoughts. I just call em as I seem em. That being said I pegged them for being a Cali grunt metal band. Don't know why but the attitude and look just reminded me of Bleeding Through which I knew were from Orange County.. turns out I was right about that part. I'm sure there would be a lot of fans that could explain to me the myriad of differences between the two bands I know, but I still probably wouldn't understand.

Photographically speaking as always I love shooting something as dynamic as Throwdown. Not easy and results are always iffy but damn it's what concert shooting is all about. Trying to get a good shot in before a crowd surfer kicks you in the head or lands on you is the game.
