Galactic

I missed the opener for Galactic due to circumstances beyond my control. Luckily most of em came back later and played on a few songs with Galactic so that was cool. My first impression of Galactic was, hey's it's Particle with horn. Not so much for the music style as for the look, all the back lighting and fog etc.. They maybe be closer to North Mississippi Allstars than Particle musically, or somewhere in between. Either way I liked em a lot. Photographically speaking they suck.. or at least they are royal pain to shoot. As I said everything is backlit and no front stage lights at all. So forget getting good pictures of faces. And what light they did have was generally red and not all that bright. I had to shoot high ISO and slow exposure. That worked only moderately well. And the only picture I'm really happy with is 7290. Not saying they are all bad just not as good as I'd have liked them to be. I also noticed that compression really killed em this time when I converted them to web size and quality. Which means it sucks to be you, since more than likely this is the only version you'll ever get to see. Meanwhile I sit here looking at the full size 16bit color version rather than what you get at 600 pixels, 70% quality 8 bit on this page. Sorry,

On a last note, one of the things I love about shooting the Meridian is that they book bands that I'd want to see, even if I wasn't shooting them. Galactic is one of those bands. I'd heard good things about and I'm glad I finally got to see them. There are a lot worse place you could spend 20 bucks, movie and popcorn for instance, and you'd leave feeling a lot less satisfied. Next time they come through you may just want to check them out.
