David Allan Coe

 

David Allan Coe is one strange dude. At 10 PM he wanted the club's AC turned off.. he claims that he's trying to protect his voice such that is, and that A/C is bad for it.. First off. What about all the damn smoke in the club that is not only worse for a throat I think but is no longer going to be circulated out of the room thanks to no moving air? And 2nd it's HOUSTON IN AUGUST!! Who the hell would put a few hundred people in a box and then turn off the A/C.. It's not fair to say it's an oven in there since oven implies dry heat.. This is more like poaching or braising.

Next Coe insists that no one be in the photo pit during the show, odd but whatever. I figure it's cause he was buddies with Dimebag Darryl and he's got some fear that someone will come up and shoot him. Of course the guy who shot Dimebag didn't use the photo pit to access the stage either but we are likely dealing with an irrational fear here. I mean if we want to look at it logically Coe has already survived more dangerous situations like long term prison stints and sturgis, or many concerts with bikers and rednecks in attendance. hell he stood a much better chance of getting a stray bullet from a fight in the audience at those shows, than of anyone being insane enough to rush the stage from the photo pit after being drained of energy and the will to live by the heat in the venue and shooting him. Unless of course the reason the person doing the shooting is in retaliation of Coe's insistance of turning off the A/C.. Suddenly I understand his concern.

Oh and notes on the photos, there was a lot of red gels. so color photos basically sucked. As for his performance, I can't fault that at all he put on a show one would expect from a man who has been doing this stuff as long as he has. I'd have to go with him on they question of why the hell isn't he in the Country Hall of Fame. He's written some great songs and has created one interesting stage persona.

Several fans commented to me that they were amazed that as soon as the show ended he "got on his bus and left" I guess they expected him to maybe sign some autographs or something.
