Perry Farrell's Satellite Party I wasn't sure what the newest Perry Farrell project was going to be like, you just never know. I mean last summer I saw Dave Navarro's Panic Channel and thought this generic band managed to get one of the more charismatic guitarists around to play with them. I can't remember much else about their show except it was Navarro playing guitar, oh and some other dudes onstage. For all I knew "Satellite Party" would be that same vibe or something even more bizarre out to space thing Farrell had come up with. What it was or rather what it turned out to be is a top of his form Perry Farrel doing some new stuff and a lot of Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyro songs with a band about as tight as I've ever seen him play with. Seriously I've seen Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyro's and they didn't play as good as they gave us this Sunday evening. It may be that he's traveling with his family and has cleaned up or who knows what. I do know that we got real lucky to see this show in the type of venue we did, cause if word gets around he'll be selling much bigger venues pretty soon, which is good for him but would mean a less personal experience for us. As for photography, well they took out the barrier shortly before the show at the band's insistence, again neat for fans but a veritable cock block for shooting. The light was bright in place and presented a fun challenge to balance, and since I was shooting through the audience every time Perry did something cool everyone raised their hands and cheered and suddenly I had no shot of said cool thing. As a photo shoot it was pretty much a wash, but at least I got to see the show, and if Bob (the guy who runs Meridian) gets his way, I'll get another shot at them again. After the show we were back stage and Bob was practically begging Farrell to come back again. He later said it was one of his top 5 favorite shows he's ever seen. I'm not sure I'd go as far as top 5 shows ever but it was the best I've ever seen Farrell which is something.
